The company’s name was changed to Lands’ End, named after the most treacherous and rocky section of the California coastline, strewn with shipwrecked old vessels. As for the misplaced apostrophe, it was a typographical error but was elected to be kept by the company’s founders, since all their promotional materials had already been printed.
