Born Josefina Almeda Cruz, the eldest of six children in a close-knit Filipino family, Josie grew up surrounded by strong, supportive role models. “Women in the Philippines are encouraged to be entrepreneurial”, Josie says. “It’s a very matriarchal culture.” From a very young age she knew that business was her true calling and she left Manila for New York in 1964, at 17, to study economics at Manhattanville College. In 1971, she moved to Merrill Lynch as an investment banker. While there, she met her future husband, Ken Natori, a third-generation Japanese-American, managing director at Smith Barney. After conquering the finance world she moved on to the fashion world. As founder and CEO of Natori Company, Josie Natori literally reconfigured an industry, erasing the boundary between underwear and outerwear and bringing elegant, sensuous lingerie into the light of day.

She started her business from scratch, twenty-five years ago, and has applied her taste and skills to an innate understanding of what exactly women want. A firm believer in progress, Natori Lingerie keeps moving forward, staying ahead of the curve and remains a trend setter rather than a follower. Josie Natori shops the world for inspiration and technological innovations which she can utilize to enhance new product introductions.
