Bill Blass Jeans

Bill Blass was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana in 1922. As a child Blass spent his free time drawing in the margins of his school books, filling them with his own unique clothing designs. At the early age of 15 Blass sold his first sketches of women’s gowns to a New York manufacturer for $25 each. By 17 Blass had saved enough money selling his sketches to send himself to fashion school in New York, kicking off a brilliant career as one of America’s most renowned style icons.

Bill Blass designs were especially recognized for their diversity and accessibility and though they were worn by presidents’ wives, movie stars and all manner of luncheon ladies, they were also within the reach of the average American. In 1970 Blass ventured out on his own with Bill Blass Limited. From that point on Blass started producing a variety of products including swimwear, linens, perfumes, chocolates and furs. Through the years Bill Blass helped define a genre of sporty sophistication and upper-class casual wear that would become the international calling card of classic American fashion. Blass passed away in 2002 leaving behind a thriving empire with unlimited potential.
